Family Details: Solange lives with her parents, brother and sister in Ecuador, where 70 per cent of children live below the poverty line. Her duties at home include doing odd jobs and cleaning. Solange's father is able to earn a little money as a messenger and her mother as a poorly paid dressmaker. They work hard for very little and struggle to provide the basic day to day needs for their family. As part of Compassion's ministry, Solange participates in Bible class. She is also in kindergarten where she enjoys working with numbers. Playing with dolls and ball games are Solange's favourite activities. Community Details: Project: EC-127, San Pablo Student Centre Location: La Comuna, Quito, Ecuador Your sponsored child lives in the mountainous community of La Comuna, home to approximately 10,000 residents. Typical houses are constructed of cement floors, brick walls and zinc roofs. The most commonly spoken language is Spanish. The regional diet consists of rice and potatoes. Common health problems in this area include parasites, malnutrition, diarrhoea and respiratory illnesses. Most adults in La Comuna work as street vendors and earn the equivalent of $US100 per month. This community needs secondary schools, vocational education, improved sanitation and recreational centres.

Current Project Information: Your sponsorship allows the staff of San Pablo Student Centre to provide your sponsored child with Bible teaching, medical checkups, health education, vaccines, recreational activities, motor skills development and tutoring. The centre staff will also provide health training and schooling for the parents or guardians of your sponsored child.
