Family Details: Doris lives in the mountainous community of Perquin,home to approximately 20,000 residents. Typical houses are constructed of dirt floors, wood walls and tile roofs. The population is comprised of Mesitzos and the most commonly spoken language is Spanish. The regional diet consists of maize, beans and rice. Common health problems in this area include diarrhoea, bronchitis, fever, malnutrition and flu. Half the adults in Perquin are unemployed but some work as day labourers and earn the equivalent of $US80 per month. This community has water and electricity but needs scholastic materials and employment oportunities.

Community Details: Doris is presently in Level 1 of Kindergarten in El Salvador, which is equivalent ti kidergarten in Australia. Her performance is average. Singing playing with dolls and playing group games are Doris's favorite recreational activities. She also attends Bible class regularly.
