Family Details: Ellaine lives with her father, mother and brother in the Philippines, where 40 percent of the people live below the poverty line. Her father earns a little money as a baker and her mother maintains the home. They find it hard to meet the basic needs of their family. At home, Ellaine helps her family by making beds, cleaning and doing odd jobs.

Community Details: Ellaine participates in church activities. She is also in kindergarten where she likes to learn about science. Story telling, playing house and art are her favorite activities. Typical houses are constructed of dirt floors, bamboo walls and thatch roofs. The primary ethnic group is lta-Hiligaynon. The regional diet consists of fish and rice. Common health problems in this area include fever, flu, colds, and malnutrition. Most adults in Bonifacio Drive are unemployed but some work as clerks or labourers and earn the equivalent of $80 per month. This community has water and electricity available but needs employment opportunities.
