Family Details: Allison lives with his grandparents and aunt in Ecuador, where 41 per cent of the population live below the poverty line. His duty at home is to help with household chores. Allison's grandfather is sometimes able to earn a little money by selling in the marketplace and his grandmother as a housekeeper. Their hard work, when they can get it, brings in very little money and they struggle to provide for the basic needs their family requires.Playing group games is Allison's favourite activities. He is in primary school where he is steadily progressing and his best subject is Language. Community Details: Your sponsored child lives in the coastal community of Caritas, home to approximately 6,000 residents. Typical houses are constructed of bamboo and have zinc roofs. The population is comprised of mixed races and the most commonly spoken language is Spanish. The regional diet consists of maize, beans, bananas, chicken, fish, bread, beef, plantains, rice and potatoes. Common health problems in this area include respiratory disorders, infections and skin diseases. Most adults in Caritas are unemployed but some work as fishermen and earn the equivalent of $US100 per month. This community needs employment opportunities, recreation centres and a decrease in the number of secondary school dropouts.
Current Project Information: Your sponsorship allows the staff of Macedonia Student Centre to provide your sponsored child with Bible teaching, medical exams, nutritious food, recreational activities, special celebrations, academic reinforcement, math and language workshops and leadership training. The centre staff will also provide health education for the parents or the guardians of your sponsored child.
